Here at the AVP, we love our new home on Amazon Prime Video. They’ve been great partners to us over the last two seasons (but of course, we can’t forget our partners at NBC who bring the Finals action to the US stage each and every tournament). Prime Video has entered the game of content creation, and we may be biased, but their shows are 🔥. We took a look around our new home, and the AVP pros have weighed in on their favorite Amazon Prime shows.
Here’s our rundown (in no particular order):
What are the best Amazon Prime shows right now?
Good Omens
Grab some popcorn and get ready to dive in. One of the best Amazon Prime shows has to be Good Omens, which is a creative and humorous take on the apocalypse, reminding us that even though humanity has its issues, it could be worse.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
With 8 Emmys and 1 Golden Globe in two seasons, we had to hear what the buzz was all about. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel takes a spin on NYC society in the 1950s, except this housewife has bigger dreams than cooking and doing the laundry. Mrs. Maisel has her eyes on the bright lights of stand-up comedy. Rachel Brosnahan plays Mrs. Maisel and her relationship & banter with on-screen agent Susie Myerson (played by Alex Borstein) weirdly resembles Rory and Lorelai of Gilmore Girls (and we aren’t mad about it).
AVP Beach Volleyball
We won’t let you get too far down this list without recognizing the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) as one of Amazon Prime’s best shows. At the AVP, we showcase the best beach volleyball athletes in the world as they travel around the country, bringing the beach festival to cities throughout the nation. The AVP provides in-game interviews with your favorite athletes and Olympians, behind-the-scenes access, expert analysis on the game, and fun storylines you won’t get anywhere else. The 2019 season is over, but the 2020 season kicks off in May.
Goliath
In Goliath, Billy Bob Thorton plays the stellar, but drunken lawyer Billy McBride who finds himself at the center of a massive lawsuit against his former firm. Based in Santa Monica, McBride battles his own demons while trying to win cases for those who cannot stand up for themselves.
The Boys
Although it’s only in its first season, The Boys has proven to be a heavyweight amongst Amazon Prime’s programs. The Boys takes a more cynical approach to the superhero landscape, giving the audience an inside look at the harsh reality behind every act of bravery. It turns out that the world’s superheroes are not heroes at all, but merely figureheads for a major corporation’s political agenda.
All or Nothing
We live and breathe sports so it makes sense that another sports show made the list. All or Nothing pulls back the curtain on some of sports’ most storied entities. For the avid sports fan, it sheds a new light on the life of an athlete and the experiences within the greater organization.
Sneaky Pete
Last, but certainly not least, we have Sneaky Pete rounding out our list of the best Amazon Prime shows. The show shares the story of a con artist named Marius Josipovic who, after being released from prison, acquires the identity of his cellmate Pete Murphy. With its manipulative characters and intense plot twists, it’s easily a show you can binge.
